Megan & Sean's Winter Engagement Session | A Colorado Sunrise in the Mountains
There's something magical about Colorado on a crisp winter morning. The air is quiet, the mountains are glowing with the first light of day, and for just a little while, it feels like you have the entire landscape to yourself. That's exactly how Megan and Sean's engagement session began.
With their wedding just around the corner next month, it feels like the perfect time to look back on one of my favorite engagement sessions from this past winter.
We met shortly after sunrise at one of Colorado's historic mountain parks—an old mining area that has been transformed into a beautiful trail system while still preserving so much of its rugged history. Weathered wooden bridges, remnants of the old mining structures, rushing mountain water, and towering rock formations create a setting that feels authentically Colorado. It couldn't have been a more fitting backdrop for these two.
The timing of our session wasn't by accident. Megan and Sean both have busy work schedules, so we met early enough to take advantage of that gorgeous soft morning light before they headed into the office. Early mornings may require a little less sleep, but they're almost always worth it. The trails were peaceful, the light was incredible, and we had the location almost entirely to ourselves.
The chemistry between Megan and Sean made photographing them effortless. They spent the morning laughing together, stealing quiet moments on the historic mining flume, and simply enjoying each other's company. Whether they were wrapped up in a warm embrace overlooking the mountains or sharing smiles beside the creek, every moment felt genuine and natural.
One of my favorite images from the session captures them standing in the middle of the old wooden flume, surrounded by the dramatic mountain landscape. The towering cliffs and rustic woodwork remind you just how unique Colorado is, while Megan and Sean become the unmistakable focus of the scene. It's the kind of image that tells both a love story and a story about place.
Another favorite is along the creek where the soft sound of the water and evergreen trees created a completely different mood—quiet, intimate, and relaxed. I love incorporating a variety of scenery into engagement sessions, especially in locations that offer so much visual interest within a short walk.
As the sun climbed higher over the mountains, it created beautiful warm backlighting that added the perfect finishing touch to the session. Even on a chilly winter morning, the sunlight brought warmth to every photograph.
Now, with their wedding only weeks away, I couldn't be more excited to celebrate alongside Megan and Sean once again. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day will be filled with laughter, genuine emotion, and plenty of unforgettable moments. I can't wait to document the next chapter of their story.
Congratulations again, Megan and Sean! Thank you for trusting me to capture these memories. I'll see you very soon for the big day!
Thinking about your own engagement session?
One of the things I love most about Colorado is the endless variety of locations we have to work with. Whether you envision dramatic mountain scenery, historic mining towns, alpine lakes, or downtown city vibes, I'd love to help you find the perfect setting that reflects your personalities and your story. Engagement sessions are more than just beautiful photos—they're a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, spend time together, and create memories before your wedding day. I can't wait to help tell your story.
